Fat Injections
Fat injections are a viable option for those who want a more youthful and supple appearance. They are usually used to plump up hollow cheekbones, smooth out fine lines, fill in wrinkles and to enhance thinning lips. How Does it Work? Fat injections are a popular option as the procedure is quick and relatively painless. The technique actually involves two locations: the area where fat will be removed from the patient and the area where it will then be injected. Because the inserted fat is part of the patient’s own body, there are no complications from allergies or incompatible tissues. A local anesthetic is used on both locations. Then, either a needle or small tube is used to extract the fat. The most common extraction locations are the hips, thighs and buttocks. The fat is quickly processed to remove impurities and non-essential fragments and is then injected into the desired area. Fat is a living tissue and needs a blood supply. As it can take a couple of days for the blood capillaries to connect, extra fat is often injected to cover the expected loss due to lack of blood supply. The entire procedure usually takes between 30 and 90 minutes. Patients are encouraged to take it easy but can resume normal activities almost immediately.
